Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) October 20, 2007 -- Beverly Schaefer, a Washington pharmacist and a member of the United Drugs cooperative, has been named the 2007 Willard B. Simmons Independent Pharmacist of the Year by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).
"Even though we are over 1,000 members strong, there is no one that deserves this honor more than Beverly. She works tirelessly; not just for herself but for her patients, for her students and for independent pharmacy itself," said Bruce A. Semingson, CEO of United Drugs.
Ms. Schaefer is co-owner of Katterman's Sand Point Pharmacy in Seattle, Washington, which has a national reputation for cutting-edge patient care and was one of the first in the state to offer immunizations, osteoporosis screenings and nutritional education.
United Drugs' Chairman of the Board Gary Glisson said, "She is a true innovator and is extremely good at patient counseling. Also, Beverly is an exceptional teacher at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. She even found time to coach the NCPA Business Plan Team all the way to the national finals. Those kids have a great mentor in Beverly."
Ms. Schaefer has served on the board of directors of the Washington State Pharmacy Association and as president of the North King County Pharmacists Association to name a few. She also serves as vice-chair of the NCPA Committee on Management and is very involved in Seattle-area community affairs.
"It is such an honor to be recognized by your peers for having a real passion for independent pharmacy," said Schaefer.
The Independent Pharmacist of the Year award recognizes an independent pharmacist for exemplary leadership and commitment to independent pharmacy and to the community. The award is named in honor of Willard B. Simmons, a former NCPA executive secretary and long-time NCPA Foundation trustee. The announcement was just made at the NCPA Annual Convention held October 13-17 in Anaheim, CA.
